I think the key to working in a home office is self-discipline - otherwise the lines between work life and home life become blurred. Either you end up working while you should be spending time with your family, or you end up wasting valuable business hours, watching telly or surfing the net. I definitely agree that a properly designated and designed space within your the home is essential - somewhere you can close the door at the end of the day, when you switch to "home mode". But also so that you can shut the rest of the world out, when you need to work. You have to draw up mutual agreements with spouses and children - so that everybody knows when "work time" begins and ends - and then abides by it.

I have to say at this point, that I do occasionally work at home, thanks to the marvels of modern technology. But as a rule I work in an office, not just because I probably don't possess the self discipline described above, but also because I think it's important to interact face-to-face with my business partners on a regular basis!
