Work At Home Essentials

This week we’re talking about setting up your home office. There are lots of things to take into consideration when working from home. Not to be taken lightly is your technology.  My go to’s are simple.

I have an HP desktop that I use for almost all of my work. I stay pretty much chained to my desk, but a desktop unit is almost mandatory if you’re doing any graphic intense work or you just need to be able to see more than 20 lines of code.

My netbook is an Acer Aspire One 11.6″  Netbook. It has an 8 hour battery,  a full sized keyboard, and weighs just 1.2kg (a box of kleenex can weigh more) But importantly, the 8 hour battery keeps me off the floor looking for power connections at conferences who just didn’t plan it out right.

More on those later this week.  Today I’m talking printers. Not just any printer though. An Epson , with so much good stuff “baked” in that you’ll want to kick your current printer and fax and scanner to the curb!

Epson sponsored girlfriends.guide to the business of blogging back in December.  They convinced me to give this printer a try. Admittedly skeptical, I unplugged the HP and set it in the corner. I wasn’t going that easy.  Here’s the low down.

Epson’s WorkForce line is built for speed, and the WorkForce 610 all-in-one leads the pack with printing up to 38 ppm. It offers copy, scan and fax features for maximum efficiency and ease of use in any workspace, especially from home. With built-in Wi-Fi, it is truly an office powerhouse, even allowing you to print from almost any room in the house. This is a great feature for those who need to work away from their desks. In addition to its robust feature set, its sleek styling fits flawlessly into nearly any décor!

Let me show you how this baby works for me!

First the set up is flawlessly easy  (Epson did the work on the video, but you won’t need it!)

Bada Bing its done.

Now printing is super easy, super quick and if you’re an Iphoneiphile you can print from your phone or Ipod

But lets get to the meat of it, I love my printer. And here’s why:

  1. Its not tiny mind you but its easily hidden in a cabinet or closet. So instead of eating up desktop space, it’s housed in another location.
  2. Print quality is AMAZING. Printing coupons (I print hundreds a month) is fast and they’re so well printed, there’s never a question at checkout.
  3. If I could physically show you the pictures I’ve printed, you’d be amazed as well! These are truly frame quality prints.

I can scan an old photo like this one:

do all the crop work on the scanner

and voila after a little clean up (photoshop is a lifesaver)

A picture of Gran, suitable for framing !

Scanner, printer and fax yep, its a built in fax machine. Takes seconds to set up and you’ve got almost your entire office technology wrapped in one little black box!

The inks and papers (recommended weights and types) are frugally priced. So the overall package is totally affordable.

After using this printer for a few months, I won’t go back to my wireless HP, no mam! Epson has won my heart!

The WorkForce 610 all-in-one is able to effortlessly handle all of your printing, scanning, copying and faxing needs while managing your own business. MSRP $199

Editor Note: Epson, America provided the printer to me.  I was asked to compare speed, print quality and overall ease of use with no requirement to speak positively of the equipment.  The opinions expressed above are mine soley and not influenced by receipt of equipment or by monetary compensation. Your experiences may vary.
