In the continuing series of Frugal Deals….

brokenglasses Frugal Diva and the $8 Prescription EyeglassesThose of you who wear prescription eyewear will relate to what happened to me. Ever feel pressured by your optician to buy a second pair of frames? When I bought my new glasses, I didn’t think she was going to let me out of the store with both legs, but I stood firm (read: family tightwad), after all I’m a grown-up, I don’t play team sports or participate in any activity that would make me think I need an extra pair. I only wear them to see! Well, Maybe it’s not such a bad idea after all. If you depend on your eyeglasses for clear vision, like I do, suddenly finding yourself without them could be frightening. It’s a good idea to own a back-up pair, just in case of an emergency.

I broke my glasses yesterday. Not just sort of broken, the way you can “home” repair them until you get replacements. No, I BROKE em into pieces. Beyond repair. So, add $270 for new glasses back into the budget for this year, twice. UGH. Now, my isn’t going to take that kind of battering this month, but, I’m going to have a second pair of glasses here. Just in case I do something totally stupid again.

That’s where Zenni Optical comes in. I’m putting them in my list of Best Things Found !

Their prices start at $8 for Rx Glasses . Yep, I said $8. That’s your real prescription t 639 03 2 Frugal Diva and the $8 Prescription Eyeglasseslenses, frames and a case! Too good to be true? Hop on over and see for yourself what a great discovery this is! They make their own frames, and don’t pay for major advertising, so it cuts out the price of a middleman.

You can submit your prescription for regular or tinted lenses or even the lenses that auto adjust for sun! For those of us who are age challenged they even offer bi-focal frames and lenses. And they have a wide range of stylish choices.

I’ve already ordered my pair and a spare! For this price I could have a pair for every day of the week! Nah, I’m still a tightwad! (read: Frugal Diva!)

Lady Doc Gets Death Threats for Revealing TOP SECRET Fat Loss Secret to General Public

January 29, 2008 by Deb · 3 Comments

A new breakthrough secret is all you now need in order to forever shed countless pounds, stay healthy, and add many years to your life!

A lady doctor from Arizona has blown the lid off the best-kept secret in weight loss ever discovered — and this has the whole diet food and drug industries turned upside down and in nothing less than a torrential uproar.

Her name is Dr Suzanne Gudakunst, and she’s marching to the beat of a different drum.

And no, nothing about her “secret” is difficult — nor does it require that you do something completely out of the ordinary or anything unnatural.

Instead, the Arizonian boasts proudly “…this is something that I caught onto just before 2002 when there was so much research and exploration going around concerning the human colon and digestive system working in harmony with nutritional absorption, and I started doing independent studies just to test things at first … but which I later expanded on after seeing some fantastic results.”

This same woman medical practitioner went on to accurately determine a definitive correlation between harmful plague and parasitic infestations of the human bowel tract, and people suffering chronic obesity — and who despite intense diet and exercise appeared to be unable to lose any weight whatsoever.

Over the course of six years the Arizona doctor developed a number of natural treatments for the removal of these same harmful, even life-threatening plaques and rapidly reproducing digestive parasites — and when applied to even worse-case patients suffering extreme obesity (98% of which were in immediate danger of dying) she saw a 100% effectiveness and success rate.

She then borrowed from her research on the severely obese, and applied the same strategies on milder cases of overweight persons — only to find the same effectiveness and quality results as described above (although the individual weight loss per subject wasn’t nearly as much as those obese patients 100 lbs to 200 lbs or more overweight).

Are you Blogged?

January 26, 2008 by Deb · 3 Comments

blogged Are you Blogged? Blogged.com is a directory for blogs. If you haven’t listed your blog in it, go ahead and just list it. I have checked my blog and found that it had already been listed and rated by the editor. It’s rated 7.1out of 10, which translates to “very good” in their terms.

I find it quite low still. If you have time, drop by my page and write a review, so that they reevaluate my blog’s rating as 9.8/10 maybe?

Never hurts to be found in another directory and a great rating is a real plus!

Hissy Fit

January 26, 2008 by Deb · 4 Comments

Another lesson in Southernese

def: A sudden outburst of temper, often used to describe female anger . Originally regional from American South. Thought to originate from contraction of “hysterical fit.”

A heightened emotional state that results in an animated fit of peak.

Only a Southerner knows the difference between a hissy fit and a conniption fit, and that you don’t have them, you pitch them.

We southern women are famous for what we call “hissy” fits. And yesterday, I pitched a grand one! It all started when I went to my BOA account online to pay bills. I found my account -.15 , not the healthy balance I had the night before, when I sent a check to my step daughter.

Let me explain to you how this all came to be. Last weekend, my hubby handed over his paycheck to me after endorsing it properly, I endorsed it as well with my bank account number and signature and promptly deposited it in the local BOA ATM. That handled, I was off to the grocery, dry cleaners, service station, you know the drill. Saturdays are made for errands.

Monday was a federal holiday, so the check I had deposited over the weekend was still marked pending, minus the few hundred dollars that they make available immediately. No problem, life is still good. Made the payment on the condo, purchased some adult refreshment. Tuesday was a regular day, my pay check (regular one) auto deposited at midnight & my freelance work deposits all posted as well. Still waiting on the ATM deposit to clear fully, until Wednesday. No problem. All is well.

Thursday morning rolls around, I sign on to my account to transfer funds to our savings account. I notice my available balance is -.15. After scrolling down the account screen seems the deposit I made on Saturday has been reversed. I’m in total disbelief that hubby’s payroll check wouldn’t have been good. By now I’m calculating what future overdraft charges are on the way and I’m feeling a migraine coming on.

I send a bank mail to customer service inquiring about the reversal. I’ve got loads of work to take care of for clients so I don’t check my email for several hours. When I get back to it, I have a pert, polite message from customer service. They’ve reversed the transaction, not because the check bounced mind you, but because my husband’s name is not on the household account to which I deposited the check. And, they continue to tell me that they have the option to accept or not accept it. Never mind that I have deposited these checks for years. What???

If You Build It (Right) They WILL Come

January 23, 2008 by Deb · 2 Comments

Building Buzz and Traffic for Your Blog in a 1:9 ratio

Personally, I don’t read John Chow very much. With a full time job and my blogs I don’t have much time to read about his money making exploits and dining out adventures. But I did find an article he had written very interesting. In his article, titled, If you build it, they won’t come, he lays out the reasons for blog and site failure and how to cure it. And he lays it all on one thing. Marketing!

Remember, if you build it, they won’t come. Successful blogging is 10% blogging and 90% marketing. Learning how to generate a buzz will get you a lot further than learning how to write a better blog post.

Accompanying his theory, he lays out 12 tried and true methods for building buzz and traffic, hence, according to John, success !

One word of advice though, if you follow John Chow’s formula, you’d better make sure that 10% that you devote to blogging is great content. Remember the old GIGO (garbage in, garbage out)  we all learned back in that first computer class. Even he admits that if content isn’t good, he’s not going to take the time to link to it.

Make great blog posts. If the post sucks, I’m not going to link to it.

Make no mistake, blogging is hard work! Blogging without readers is tougher. Market yourself and your blog well and you’ll reap the rewards soon. Leverage your traffic well and you’ll be sitting pretty before you know it.
